Phil Vinson is an artist and educator working in glass and metal. He began his glass career in 1994 at Tyler School of Art. Phil has been blowing glass for 18 years, and teaching workshops for the last 12 years.
Phil, set off in late 2011 on a journey that would transform his life. Over the course of a couple of years he traveled around the US with all his belongings in the back of his little pickup truck (You can read all about the adventures on his blog at www.madeinchinastudio.blogspot.com . He has since moved out of the truck, and worked for the last few years as the 3D Studio Technician at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia, USA.
He specializes in working collaboratively with individuals or small groups to foster creativity in a variety of media.
His current focus is teaching workshops showcasing all aspects of mold blowing hot glass. He works with the participants to push their own personal limits of what they think is possible. The workshops are designed to empower the participants, and give them confidence to try new things with glass in the spirit of pure exploration.
He has a wide range of experience, not only in glass technique, but metal & wood as well.This vast knowledge and experience gives Phil a unique approach to making and problem solving in hot glassblowing.
From this very interest of problem solving he started the company Mobile Glassblowing Studio, manufacturing portable furnaces for Artists wish to practice Hot Glassblowing, in Americus, Georgia.
Studio Glass Sutra has one of his furnaces. Phil was invited by Studio Glass Sutra/ Reshmi to Delhi in December to help her to set up the studio along with inaugurate the furnace.
He shared his knowledge of running a studio and helped Reshmi to organize an event where he demonstrated glassblowing technique to invited audience. He also made the participants to experience the excitement of Glassblowing.
